The Hat Farm started at Carmichael Outreach in Regina. Carmichael Outreach is a place where people can get clothing, food, a cup of coffee, help with housing, drug addiction, plus pretty much anything else people need when they have no where else to turn. In 2014 Carmichael Outreach served 53,689 meals to people in Regina. In 2015 it’s looking like that number will be closer to 70,000. They’re growing, and that’s not a good thing. I mean it is great people who maybe weren’t getting a meal last year have the chance to but as an organization they can’t just keep growing. Read more

Want to find your Superpower? Volunteer for something.
It was back in elementary school, I was a lost little boy. Well, not little, you could say I enjoyed food as a kid and not just “pizza” the whole bloody thing!! This made it more difficult to meet girls of the opposite sex. Enter volunteering. Read more

We did it. A summer camp for one day, 5 challenges, six students competed in the craziest, widlest, most fun business challenges. In the end we had to crown one winning team.
T-shirt marketing has been around for years. I’m not sure who started it, probably someone who loved making people smile. Any way, what we wear has changed so much over the years. Clothing can affect the way you think(peoples’ perception of you changes), from the psychology of social signalling and Status Anxiety, to understanding that most of what we do is centred around attracting the opposite sex (see the book Spent for a fascinating look into this theory). The most underrated thing you can do for your life is exercise. There are so many positive side effects to physical activity that it’s almost insane how we live our lives sitting at a desk for hours on end. We learned that in school, businesses thought it was a good idea too, “hey put everyone in cubicles!”. What a terrible idea that was. Read more

Ready for the best week of Summer?!? Welcome Big Idea Camp 2015.We combine the two best parts of school to create the most effective learning environment possible. Field trips (working with real companies and organizations) and team based competitions.
In school, getting out of the classroom was when you started learning (outside your comfort zone) and team based competition teaches students many different applicable skills such as, communication, empathy, leadership (more importantly followership), listening, initiative, trust, and of course teamwork.
In school field trips were the best! You got to learn from the experts in the field doing their real job. This is what we want to create. A real learning experience. We’re working with companies and a couple non-profits to offer the students real case studies on problems businesses are currently facing. You’ll get to offer ideas that may get implemented by an actual company. How neat!
It’s for highschool students (grades 9-12), you don’t need prior business education whatsoever. We’re going 9-4 for 5 days straight! You’ll never sit in a chair longer than 30 minutes. Big Idea Camp will keep you laughing, keep you on your toes, and get you thinking about YOUR big idea.
In school they tell you to sit in a row, do what your told and don’t question authority. In university they make you memorize material from a previous decade and try to tell you that you have to be professional to make it. It’s implied that you don’t dress like a slob but why is being professional a sought after characteristic?Read more

We all agree that education is broken, its something we all slip into conversation every now and then, but why do we all agree on something and no one does anything about it? Rather silly if you ask me.

Volleyball is a nerdy sport. I don’t care what you say about it, it’s nerdy, trust me.
I don’t like it, I want to change that.
The Regina Volleyball Club hasn’t been the Volleyball powerhouse that I thought it would be. We’re trying to change that. We (along with three other awesome coaches) are coaching the youngest age group in the boys category possible, we’re trying to get kids involved early. Our theory is if we get them playing and loving Volleyball at a young age, they’ll keep with it, play more and more and grow into talented Volleyball players.
On the road to making things awesome you’re going to have good days and bad days. Just ensure the former out way the later.
Each year for the past four years we’ve coached two teams together, we practice together but go to tournaments as two different teams. My team looked great the first day of provincials, we went undefeated. Then the second day we were upset the first game in the morning, we lost out. It was devastating, I felt terrible. But, our sister team, the Goats made a run and won provincials. Pretty awesome for those boys!
You’re always going to have setbacks, it’s how you deal with them that matters.
Moral of the story: on your road to changing the world Volleyball community you’re going to have set backs, don’t let that deter you or make you lose momentum. Use set backs as a sign you’re on to something.
