A Personal Story

Let me share a personal experience that highlights these points. I once showed up to a meeting only to find a lady very upset with me because I wasn’t early. She couldn’t find the location, even though it was clearly mentioned in the email and even circled in a photo. Initially, her frustration caught me off guard, and I felt defensive. However, I chose to give her the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps she was having a rough day or missed the details in the email in a hurry.

For some odd reason, I approached the situation with empathy. I had to win her back. I wasn’t going to let this negative moment ruin my night. My positive attitude helped diffuse the situation.

I went off on a tangent at one point and she was quick to say “Can we please stay on track?”. In her defence I wanted to get out of there just as fast as she did so I agreed with her. But for some reason, I remembered her exact phrase.

Not even 10 minutes later, she is the one going off on a tangent and I smile at the social situation gods giving me this giant gift. With a big smile on my face I respond to her in my sternest voice, “Can you please stay on track?!”. To which the whole room erupted with laughter, herself included. After that I think we were friends. At least I thought we were!

After the meeting, she sent me a nice email thanking me for the training. In a rollercoaster of events, a relationship was saved, all because of the power of a positive attitude (and a little humour!)

This experience has reinforced my belief in the power of making a good first impression (they can change how people treat you), giving people the benefit of the doubt (you have no idea what someone’s day was like), and maintaining a positive attitude (the only choice in every situation we face is the attitude we bring to it).

First Impressions Matter

First impressions are crucial because they set the tone for future interactions. When you meet someone for the first time, you only have a few seconds to make a positive impact. Studies show that people quickly form opinions based on your appearance, body language, and overall demeanour. Making a good first impression can open doors to new opportunities, build trust, and create a lasting positive image.

Giving People the Benefit of the Doubt

Life is full of uncertainties, and sometimes, people may not act in the way we expect. However, it’s important to give others the benefit of the doubt. This means assuming that their intentions are good, even if their actions might seem off. By doing this, you create an environment of understanding and compassion. Everyone has bad days, and sometimes, misunderstandings arise. Approaching situations with an open mind and heart fosters better relationships and prevents unnecessary conflicts.

The Power of a Positive Attitude

Being happy and maintaining a positive attitude can significantly impact your life and those around you. Happiness is contagious, and a cheerful demeanour can uplift others. When you choose to be happy instead of grumpy, you create a more pleasant atmosphere. Positivity also has numerous health benefits, including reducing stress, improving mental health, and boosting your immune system. So, next time you feel down, try to find something positive to focus on and spread that joy to others.

I am not a tech person, but in working with Carter, Dustin, or Brandon, bit-by-bit we've been able to revolutionize our Events Guide from what it previously was. With pretty much every idea I've had, some I didn't even know if they were technically possible, these wizards have found a way to make them happen. They are also usually super quick to make requested changes or fix any weirdness that may arise.
We've had one of the best-looking and most user-friendy tourism Events Guides in the country that even our residents are getting excited about using!
You can tell these guys are passionate about their work and care about getting their customers exactly what they need & want.
