A while ago, Jeph was interviewed by a long-time friend and colleague, Vic Roman. Jeph and Vic go way back to the Squareflo days where Jeph would interrupt their entire office on Friday afternoons with beer. The good ol’ days.

Some of the gems from this interview:

“If you don’t care about community, your customers all of a sudden won’t care about you.”

Doing things in and for the community has always been part of the StratLab way. It’s turned out to be a great marketing strategy. I’d highly recommend it!

“I like to do things I can brag to my mom about.”

She has never cared about titles, money, or any of the traditional signals of success. She always cared about if I was helping people or not. And for that, I thank her.

Storytelling (is greater than) Advertising

“Ask if someone’s willing to get on camera or talk about impact, and do that as much as you can.”

Telling your story has never been easier, and next year it’ll be even easier. Better get practice being on camera now because you’re going to have to do lots of it in the future. Don’t have anything to say on camera? Well, you probably aren’t doing enough! HA! I’m kidding, but in all seriousness, if you can talk about the impact you’re creating, then are you actually creating impact?

“Take your values as a nonprofit and tell the world that—and better yet, show the world that.”

A purpose-driven organization sticks out like a sore thumb in a good way. There are far more groups that are just going through the motions with no specific purpose. Define your “why”, develop your purple cow, and do something worth talking about.

“Nowadays, the phone in your pocket can shoot in 4K…all of a sudden, you’re on the same playing field.”

Again, use the technology you have. You don’t need a DLSR camera to capture amazing photos and video, your phone can.

“You don’t have to be perfect; show people that you’re human.”

We don’t like perfect people, so why do we always strive to be? Much better to focus on being a human, a unique, one-of-a-kind, positive bundle of joy. Okay, maybe not that far, but you know what I mean. If I meet you for the first time, why would I remember who you are?

The Stratlab team has been fantastic. In the last 2 years Stratlab has helped us to overhaul our website. I am not a tech person, but in working with Carter, Dustin, or Brandon, bit-by-bit we've been able to revolutionize our Events Guide from what it previously was. With pretty much every idea I've had, some I didn't even know if they were technically possible, these wizards have found a way to make them happen. They are also usually super quick to make requested changes or fix any weirdness that may arise. We've had one of the best-looking and most user-friendy tourism Events Guides in the country that even our residents are getting excited about using! You can tell these guys are passionate about their work and care about getting their customers exactly what they need & want. I'm sad that I'll no longer be working with this crew due to transitioning to another department at work, but I highly recommend the Strat Lab team for any web design project 👍👍

I recently had the privilege of working with Brandon at StratLab, and the quality of his work is truly next‑level. After one quick call to share my vision for a bat demo video, he understood exactly what I needed, and delivered something far beyond what I imagined. His attention to detail, creative precision, and top‑tier expertise show what real professionalism looks like. Every frame, every transition, every moment was crafted with intention. He respected timelines, communicated clearly, and made the entire process effortless. I can only hope to work with Brandon again.

The StratLab team are top shelf humans! (and pretty decent marketers ;) that understand how to set your organization up for online (and in person) success, as well as help position you as a reputable and trusted source within your market. Always great dealing with Jeph & Brandon! "If you are awesome online, you better be awesome offline." ~Jeph Maystruck
