10 seconds is all it takes. Take a moment and in your mind wish someone happiness. Do this for two people, it should only take 5 seconds per person. You don’t have to say anything aloud, simply think about someone and wish them happiness.
I heard this first in Tim Ferriss’s book Tools For Titans. One person he interviewed said this technique can change your life.
After hosting a session on mindfulness to a corporate group, where he spoke about wishing kindness upon other people, he received an email the following day. One person had a job she hated and really had no way of navigating it in a positive way. There was no way out. In a last-ditch effort, she tried the wishing happiness technique.
It changed her. She was much happier throughout the day and the only thing she did differently was wish people happiness.
I know it seems hokey but just try it. I do it regularly now and I can’t help but smile after every time I do. Your thoughts are powerful.
Go on, try it. It’s simple. Every few hours when you find your mind wandering, think of someone, you don’t need to know them. Think of them and wish them happiness and see what happens.
