I had an amazing conversation with a client this week. He’s in the renovation industry and this whole pandemic, work-from-home situation has created the perfect storm for people browsing social media.
In his opinion, many people will be scrolling the isles of Facebook wondering, “what if….” a lot. Being that this downturn in business won’t last forever, he sees it as the perfect opportunity to allow them to shop from the comfort of their very own couch.
Yes, the news is terrible and we’re living through unprecedented times. This is no reason to give up, shut down or freakout. Hard times make people more resilient, more efficient at their jobs and in the end, hopefully, take life a lot less for granted.
Your marketing efforts should be stepped up right now. A perfect time to write that About Us page or come up with a company strategy, HR Policy or fill in the blanks of what you’ve been putting off for a while.
Every company should have a content strategy, a way of communicating to the world about what they do. When it gets busy 6-9 months from now, creating content will be the last thing on people’s minds.
Start now. We mustn’t waste this opportunity we’ve been given.
When there’s a downturn in the stock market, it’s the best time to buy stock. When everyone else is leaving the market, you should be entering it! With many people not advertising right now, clicks, views, impressions, and leads are coming at an all-time discount. You could be taking advantage of it like my smart friend in the construction industry!
Just like anything in life, you shouldn’t follow the crowd (other than self-isolating, you should definitely be doing that – I mean non-life threatening decisions). While everyone is panicking, watching the news or scrolling Instagram, you could be learning a new language, learning how to code or how to use Artificial Intelligence.
This time we’ve been given in self-quarantine is a gift. Don’t squander it!
Don’t waste your time watching what other people are doing. Do things that make you happy, that challenge you, that interest you, that push you, that are fun. Just don’t waste your time; this break is a gift.

If you always make the right decision, the safe decision, the one most people make, you will be the same as everyone else. Always wishing life was different. -Paul Arden
